The château de Breteuil
Ready to travel through 400 years of history ? Dining room, library, kitchens, bedrooms… Around fifteen fully furnished and richly decorated rooms allow everyone to imagine the daily life of the successive inhabitants of this grand house.
The interior visit of the château is very entertaining thanks to the presence of wax figures from the Musée Grévin. Animated Puss in Boots figures accompany younger visitors throughout the tour. History enthusiasts will discover the great members of the family who contributed to the history of Europe. Lovers of portraits and art objects will appreciate the château’s rich collections.
Pushchairs are not allowed inside the château. They may be left at the entrance in an area provided for this purpose.
Perrault’s fairy tales
Do you know the story of « Petit Poucet » ? Do you know who owns a gown the colour of the sun? Can you complete the famous phrase: “Tire la chevillette…”? In the former outbuildings and living quarters of the past, visitors of all ages can rediscover the magical world of Charles Perrault, whose work was originally intended for adults. Eight fairy tales are brought to life through sound and light displays, accessible every day throughout the year. Each scene lasts between 4 and 8 minutes.
The Storyteller
Once upon a time…
In one of the château’s reception rooms or in the orangery, the storyteller recounts the original, unabridged tales of Charles Perrault at 4:30 pm every Saturday, Sunday, public holiday and every day during Paris Region school holidays.
The gardens and park of Breteuil
The gardens of Breteuil are diverse: the French formal gardens showcase ornamental ponds, boxwood hedges and carefully trimmed yew trees (the art of topiary); the Princes’ Garden offers abundant and colourful blooms throughout the seasons; a trail of remarkable trees delights nature enthusiasts, while younger visitors can lose themselves in the maze or enjoy the many play areas, including swings, a merry-go-round and a slide.
DINING OPTIONS
- Several picnic areas, some sheltered and some open-air, are available throughout the estate, particularly near the playground.
- Located in the château’s former pheasantry, Café d’Achille offers a selection of savoury and sweet dishes every weekend, on public holidays and during Paris Region school holidays, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
- A kiosk serving light refreshments and snacks is open during the warmer months and on selected occasions.

Throughout the year, a wide range of activities are organised for visitors of all ages. These take place during major events such as the Easter egg hunt, historical
re-enactments and balls, as well as during Paris Region school holidays.
